You could set your watch to it.., every Saturday and every day during the summer, at 12:00 and 5:30, my mom would stand on the back porch and yell “Bobby, Dee, & Tommmmmmmy.”
From when I could remember, until I was a teenager, Patricia Van Wyen would sound the alarm when it was time for us to come home to eat. Her vocal range was impressive…, easily heard from Jay & Bobby Demeusey’s back yard, or Glenn Holz’s yard, or John Kreye’s yard. I think we heard her one time when we were catching frogs down at Buedenis’s farm.
In Jr High, I suffered a pretty serious concussion after falling over George Rhodes playing basketball in gym class. When I finally regained consciousness, I remember Mr Vallone calling out my name and hovering over me…, but what I still vividly recall to this day was the sound of my mom’s high heels clicking down the hallway coming to meet me from work…, at that point I knew thing’s would be all right.
Today would have been her 98th birthday. While she’s been gone for over 27 years now, there still isn’t a day that my wife, or myself don’t fondly remember what a great wife, mother, and grandmother she was.
Miss you mom.., looking forward to seeing you again!!!
Thats my Aunt Pat, my fathers little sister. I always remember her being so nice to everyone. She would give me 5 dollars every july 22nd ,my birthday. It was alot of money way back them considering I only made 10 dollars a week delivering NEWSDAY.
