Step Back in Time: A Glimpse into Sayville’s Roaring Twenties Alumni
How do you like this stunning Roaring Twenties fashion? Our latest Sayville History Splash features:
Dorathea Magdalene (Van Wyen) Neal, Class of 1928,
dressed in the iconic style of the era—complete with a chic dropped-waist dress and a stylish headband, embodying the youthful energy of the Jazz Age. The 1920s were a time of bold fashion, flapper spirit, and newfound independence, and Dorathea’s elegant look captures it perfectly!
This special highlight comes courtesy of Kathy La Capra, who shared not only this wonderful photograph but also Dorathea’s 1917 Certificate of Promotion—a treasured piece of Sayville School history. The certificate marks an early milestone in her education, leading her to graduate with the Class of 1928.
Dorathea’s story is a reminder of the rich legacy of Sayville alumni. Did you know that the 1920s were a transformative decade for education as well? As young women like Dorathea pursued their studies, they paved the way for future generations.
We’d love to hear your thoughts! Does this photo remind you of any family memories or Sayville history? Share your stories in the comments or send us your own vintage school photos—we might feature them in a future post!
Stay tuned for more glimpses into Sayville’s past, and keep the spirit of our alumni alive!
