Bill was born in Brooklyn and grew up in Sayville.
Earning a spot on the Sayville High School varsity football team and was a member of the 1972 Rutgers Cup team (DE). As Captain of the Varsity Baseball team, he learned about determination, and teamwork, contributing to their success on the field and his future service in the military. His time as a student and athlete at SHS helped shape his discipline and competitive spirit, leaving a lasting impact on his high school experience.
Bill graduated from SHS in the Class of 1974, as did his Sayville High School sweetheart Debbie Jones. Their love endured beyond high school, leading to their marriage.
Bill entered the U.S. Navy in 1977.
Qualified Submarines in 1978 and served aboard the USS ALEXANDER HAMILTON (SSBN617G). USS Alexander Hamilton (SSBN-617) was a United States Lafayette-class ballistic missile submarine. It was the third ship of the United States Navy to be named for Founding Father Alexander Hamilton, the first US Secretary of the Treasury, who was instrumental in forming both the United States Coast Guard and the United States Navy.
Bill also served in the U.S. Naval Reserve and N.Y. Air National Guard 1982 – 1997. He retired from the USAF in 1997.
In the private sector, Bill worked as a Data Analyst at Airborne Instruments, in Deer Park, NY.
Bill dedicated 20 years to serving our country in various positions, embodying duty, honor, and sacrifice. His unwavering commitment and selfless service helped protect our freedoms and uphold the values we hold dear. We honor his dedication and express our deepest gratitude for his years of sacrifice and bravery.
Bill was fortunate to have an equally remarkable and consistently supportive partner! Like many veteran’s spouses, Debbie’s strength, sacrifices, and commitment often go unnoticed; yet she remained a steadfast foundation for Bill.
Throughout every challenge, deployment, and transition, Debbie offered love, resilience, and encouragement, ensuring that Bill was never left to face the rigors of military life alone.
Debbie (Jones) Connors dedicated 20 years to Airborne Instruments, before transitioning to the NY State Teachers Association. Debbie is scheduled to retire in June 2025!
Bill and Debbie now live happily in Ridge, NY. They have two children, Kendall and Justin, and the blessing of 3 grandsons!
