The passing of Jeanette Sivertsen Potter, Class of 1948

Jeannette Potter Obituary Obituary published on Legacy.com by Cartmell - Davis Life Celebration Funeral Home - North Plymouth on Jan. 23, 2025.
Jeannette Potter of Kingston passed away peacefully on January 22, 2025, at Beth Israel Deaconess, Plymouth. She was the devoted wife of 60 years to the late David Potter. Jeannette was one week shy of her 93rd birthday. She was born and raised on Long Island New York, daughter to the late Thorvald and Bertha (Olsen) Sivertsen.

Jeannette leaves behind her children Pamela (Potter) and Dr. Gary Mauk, Dana and Ann Marie Potter, and Kathryn Potter; grandchildren Christopher and Kristin (Barnes) Mauk, Katherine (Potter) and Kenneth Phelps, and Ivan Potter-Smith; her adorable Great-Granddaughter Finley; as well as, many near and dear nephews a niece and their extended families. Jeannette was pre-deceased by her two sisters and their husbands, Ethyl and Thomas Bond, and Katherine and Sonny Veryzer.

She was a graduate of Sayville High School. She worked as an office manager for Prudential Insurance until she was swept off of her feet by David Potter. They settled in Bayport, N. Y. until retirement making many close friends along the way. While in Bayport the family became heavily involved in breeding and raising dogs for the Guide Dog Foundation for the Blind. Jeannette loved having the dogs and pups always by her side and at her feet and she and the family made many close relationships with many of the blind graduates of the foundation's program. Jeannette was also very active in the local chapter of the American Cancer Society for decades and also started the Society Encouraging the Arts in Bayport-BluePoint Schools (SEABBS) which is still going strong to this day. After their life on Long Island, they moved to Roanoke, VA. where once again community service became an important part of their lives volunteering in several organizations, neighborhood associations, the Discovery Shop, The Athenians, Meals on Wheels and so many more.

With the passing of her husband after 60 years of marriage, Jeannette relocated to Kingston, MA. to live with her son Dana and his wife Ann Marie. Due to medical issues a few years later, she moved into Newfield House Nursing Home in Plymouth, MA. Wherever Jeannette was, she was sure to make friends along the way and was always a strong yet compassionate advocate for others. Her family is forever grateful for her being such a strong Matriarch of the family, a most loving mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Aunt, and friend, and for the compassionate and professional care provided to her by the staff at Newfield House.

A period of visitation will take place on Saturday, January 25, 2025, from 2:30 pm to 5:00 pm at the Cartmell-Davis Life Celebration Funeral Home, 373 Court Street, Plymouth. In lieu of flowers, she has requested donations be made in her name to either The Guide Dog Foundation for the Blind, Inc., 371 East Jericho Turnpike, Smithtown, NY 11876, www.guidedog.org, or The National D-Day Memorial, 3 Overlord Circle, Bedford, VA 24523, https://www.dday.org/ https://www.legacy.com/us/obituaries/name/jeannette-potter-obituary?id=57352426 FUNERAL HOME Cartmell - Davis Life Celebration Funeral Home - North Plymouth 373 Court Street Plymouth, Massachusetts
